In this session, we explore the concept of Negative Space in movement — moving into the empty spaces around us ~ in front of us, behind us, around the sides of the body, above us, and below us. We explore entering these spaces with different body parts and body surfaces.
We then add different qualities of space — lightness and thickness — imagining the space around us as having different textures and densities, which influence our effort and the movement that emerges.
We begin by staying more or less on the spot, and then gradually expand outward, allowing ourselves to shift and travel through the space. We explore the edges of our space, shift through levels, and take space.
